Maureen,
You will be amazed at the strength you can find within to help you through this sad time.
Eric has left you and your family with wonderful memories locked inside your heart, safe and easy to find just when you need them.
Although our visits across the pond were few we too have lovely memories of great times, Eric's enthusiasm for all he was involved with and his love for you and his family were evident for us to see.
Words are hard to find but we send our sincere condolences and love to you and yours.

I’m sitting here writing this condolence with tears in my eyes. Normally at this time on a Sunday, I would be calling Eric from wherever I am on my travels, for our weekly chat. He always had a kind word to say, and would never finish a call without a parting wish, and telling me he was looking forward to my next visit. Eric was a fantastic person to have as my Buddie. I will miss him terribly.
Eric and I have both lived in Paisley, where “Buddie” as well as meaning best friend, is also the name given to a “Son of Paisley” which despite being born in Kearny NJ, Eric truly was.
I first met Eric after I married Rosie, Maureen’s cousin. Around that time Eric was a frequent visitor to Paisley visiting his late Mother in Craggs Road. He always made a point in visiting our home firstly in Paisley, then latterly in Bridge of Weir. If time allowed we would watch Football (Soccer).
My relationship with Eric developed over the years with our shared love of Football (Soccer), and he also taught me everything I know about the American Football game, although I don’t think he ever approved of my adopted team, the Dallas Cowboys. He tried for 30 years to convince me his beloved New York Giants were a better option. When we got the opportunity we would telephone each other with the latest scores and gossip about our teams. Eric was an avid supporter of St Mirren Football Club, his home town team in Paisley, Scotland, and was always a keen follower of their progress (or lack of it as was mostly the case).
In recent years, mainly due to the availability of Skype, Eric and I would have long weekly calls about our teams, and when the Premier League became available on cable in the US, sometimes we watched the same game together, and discussed the finer points, despite being half the world apart. Eric had a fantastic memory, and knowledge of the game. He could remember players and scores from 20 years or more in the past.
I particularly remember one visit in 1998, when Rosie, myself & Kirsty had a fantastic holiday in Caldwell, staying with Eric and Maureen. We spent every evening glued to the TV watching the World Series. During that holiday, Eric was very involved with the Caldwell Chiefs, and took us along to watch a couple of games. On one evening he announced to everyone that he had a treat for me. He produced 2 tickets for the Monday Night game at Giants Stadium, and the teams playing were the New York Giants and the Dallas Cowboys. Eric had only managed to source the gold dust tickets from one of his many contacts. You should have seen the smile on his face when the Giants won the game.
I feel privileged to have known Eric, and welcomed into his life. Over the years he has been my friend, Mentor, confidante , coach and most of all my Buddie. RIP

If I had one word to describe him it would be beloved. Everyone that met him liked him. Which was sometimes perplexing to me when you consider he was quite the observant perfectionist. Not much got by him.
I'm not sure how many people had the pleasure of cooking for papa. The first meal I made for him included corn, which by nature, if fairly benign. Not if your papa. With both of us on our best behaviors, I proudly served him a delicious meal which included a healthy portion of corn. He ate it, we made pleasant small talk, and years later I learned he hated corn.
Then there was the time I proudly served him quiche. Make no mistake, I was no Martha Stewart in the kitchen but didn't want him to know that just yet. One of the ingredients called for in the recipe was evaporated milk. I picked up condensed milk thinking how different could they be, they both have the word milk in them? Well what was supposed to be the entree of the meal turned out to be the dessert. Grandma Pollock, always the polite, gracious guest, literally and apologetically, spewed out the first bite. Papa not only ate his piece but asked for a second!
This all set up the precedent for many years to folllow. If ever I was in the kitchen, papa was also there, providing me helpful tips and watchful eyes. He spent more time than most, trying to teach me the skill of making Empire Biscuits. Bless his heart, he always held out hope that my plump, irregularly shaped sometimes chalky tasting biscuits, would someday turn into something palatable.
All who knew papa always knew that he was a competitor. He took his games very seriously. He actually followed the rules! He liked games that were logical and methodical. The problem with that is that I liked games that were random and wacky. One time we tried to teach him to play Balderdash which is a game where there are incomprehensible words that people need to come up with a defintion for. He in no way approved of or enjoyed any part of that game. He said "I don't know what that means - how can I write a definition for it? I never even heard of it!!!" We laughed so hard and eventually threw the game out - back to playing a logical game of cards,
He was the consummate teacher; patient, kind, passionate and focused. My life is greatly enriched by knowing him.
