Obituary of Daniel James Gallagher

Daniel James Gallagher, age 88, of New Vernon, NJ, died peacefully on Friday May 6, 2016. Dan was born on January 13, 1928 to Gerald and Elizabeth Welteroth Gallagher. Raised in Williamsport, PA, Dan graduated from Lycoming College and took classes at Harvard and Johns Hopkins. Dan's bright mind and engaging personality allowed him to rise through the ranks in the business world in Maryland and California. A magazine article referred to him as "a tousle-haired extroverted Irishman." He joined Goldman Sachs in New York where he was an investment banker. These were some of his fondest days. His hobbies included piloting private aircraft and boats, going to Oshkosh air show and Hershey antique car shows with his brother-in-law Reginald Shearer, and traveling throughout nearly all of the US and to parts of Europe. He loved to work on cars and various home projects. He was very proud of his grandsons Quint and Preston. Dan is predeceased by his parents; two sisters -- Ann and Mary, and his brother Gerald. He will be missed by his children Suzanne (husband Justus von Lengerke) and Steven (wife Maria), their sons, and his dear sister Martha Shearer and her family, as well as relatives and friends. A private memorial service will be held. Donations can be made to Boys Town in NE or the charity of your choice.
