Obituary of Maryann E. Ciesla

Maryann E. Ciesla Beloved Wife, Mother and Grandmother Maryann E. Ciesla of Fairfield, NJ, passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2016. Maryann was born in Jersey City, NJ and raised in Rochelle Park, NJ to Walter and Lillian Ball. She married Ronald Ciesla and together they raised their family in Fairfield, NJ. She graduated with a Master of Science in Health Sciences in School Health Education from New Jersey City University. Maryann was a dedicated school nurse at Lincoln Elementary School in Caldwell, NJ and during her 17-year tenure made a positive impact on many lives in the community. In 2010 she was presented with the American Heart Association's "Heart Healthy School Award", given to one school in the country each year, for her work in creating "Super Lunch" which inspired students to eat right and exercise. She won the NJ State John Alexander Outstanding Project Award for Healthy Children 8 times; coordinated the fundraising event "Jump Rope for Heart" for 15+ years which donated its profits to the American Heart Association; and served as a CPR-AED Delegate and Instructor for the district. Maryann was interviewed on the radio show "Health Advocates for Kids" to discuss fundraising programs and has been interviewed and mentioned in multiple newspapers including the NJ Star Ledger, NJ Tomato Press and The Patch (Caldwell, NJ). Surviving are her beloved husband, Ronald Ciesla; devoted children, Michael Ciesla and Alison Irene and her husband Lawrence; two cherished grandchildren, Aidan and Austin Irene; and loving sister, Patricia Brand, her husband Carl and family. Maryann was loved by her family, friends and colleagues and will be missed dearly. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family at the Codey & Jones Funeral Home, 54 Roseland Ave., Caldwell, NJ on Monday, October 10th from 4-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Thomas More R.C. Church, 12 Hollywood Avenue, Fairfield on Tuesday, October 11th at 10:00am. The interment is private.
