Agnes Kathleen McGurk, 99, of Middlebury, VT, formerly of Manchester, NJ, passed away peacefully from a short illness on Thursday, June 1, 2017. Agnes was born in Orange, NJ, to James and Catherine (Boyle) McGurk on January 21, 1918. She earned an associate degree from Pace University in New York City, then worked as an executive secretary for the General Electric Company for over 40 years. She began her career at GE Headquarters in Manhattan, then transferred to GE in Fairfield, CT, and finally worked at GE Headquarters in Miami, FL until her retirement. Agnes was predeceased by her two older brothers Frank and James, and by her two sisters Mary Morrison and Martha Almquist. She is survived by her beloved nieces and nephews: Bill McGurk (and wife Mary) of Somers, CT; Kate (McGurk) Fitzpatrick (and husband Tom) of Wyckoff, NJ; Sheila (McGurk) Chesney of Pittsfield, MA; Paul Almquist (and wife Muriel) of Middlebury, VT; Peggy Almquist of Saugerties, NY; Michael Almquist of Wake Forest, NC; James McGurk (and wife Jackie) of San Diego, CA; John D. McGurk (and wife Moreen) of NYC; Marion (McGurk) Stein of Gilbert, AZ; and Patricia (McGurk) Normandin (and husband Dave) of Las Vegas, NV. Agnes is also survived by many loving great nieces and nephews and several great great nieces and nephews. Agnes was a devoted parishioner of St. John's Roman Catholic Church in Orange, NJ, where she taught Sunday School and was an active member of the Rosary Sodality. After her retirement she moved to Manchester, NJ, and attended St. John's Roman Catholic Church in Lakehurst, NJ. Agnes was also a volunteer at various local hospitals. A funeral service will be held at the Codey & Jones Funeral Home, 54 Roseland Ave., Caldwell, NJ 07006 on Monday, June 5, 2017 at 10:00 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John's R.C. Church, 94 Ridge St., Orange, NJ, at 11:00 AM. The interment will follow at St. John's Cemetery.
