Susan Haas

Obituary of Susan Marian Haas

Please share a memory of Susan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Susan Haas, 62, died on November 15th 2017 after living with cancer for, apparently, long enough.

Susan was blessed with a career as a midwife and helped women birth hundreds of babies. Along with ushering in new lives, she was a champion of women's health in general and reproductive health in particular. She was an advocate for Human Rights and, especially, Women's Rights.

A Montclair resident for over 20 years, Susan was much loved by many, not only in her family and among her friends, but also in her neighborhood and community. Susan was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, raised in West New York and lived in Caldwell for many years before moving to Montclair

A Midwifery graduate of UMDNJ, Susan lived her life in service of all women and in service of all of humanity.

Susan was predeceased by her father Amos Haas. Those family members sorrowfully left here without her include: her son Noah, daughter-in-law Sky, her granddaughter Sidney, mother Isabelle Haas (Pratt), brother Kevin Haas (Susan), brother Michael Haas, sister Nancy Haas, brother Ed Haas, sister Mary Haas, sister Teresa Haas (Stefano Marosi), brother Andrew Haas, sister Maria McLaughlin (John), sister Katherine Haas, brother George Haas, brother Robert Haas (Lisa), and brother James Haas (Missy) and, especially, her sweetheart Stephen Lauterhahn.

Susan was a much beloved Grandmother, Mother, Sister, Aunt, and a constant presence in the thoughts and memories of all her relatives and friends. We regret that her passing will leave every single one of us who have had the good fortune to know Susan with a gaping hole in our hearts.
