Beloved Husband & Father
Joseph Kenneth McDonough, 84, resided most of his life in Jersey City, NJ, passed away peacefully in the company of his family at home on Friday, August 10, 2018.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family on Monday, August 13th from 2 -7 pm at the Codey & Jones Funeral Home, 54 Roseland Avenue, Caldwell, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday, August 14th at 11:00 am in Our Lady of the Lake R.C. Church, 32 Lakeside Avenue, Verona, NJ. Joe was born and raised in Jersey City, NJ and was the son of “Mac” McDonough, a well known NJ longshoreman and the colorful owner/operator of the popular newspaper stand frequented by the thousands of daily commuters in the busy exchange place in Jersey City, NJ.
Joe was in the United States Army and was stationed in Korea during his service. After leaving the military, Joe returned to Jersey City and later met the love of his life, Angelina and raised their daughter Andrea, who both were later employed by and retired from Laborers Local 472 in Newark.
For over 35 plus years, Joe rose to become a Captain of corrections officers at the Hudson County Department of Corrections - Hudson County Jail After retirement, Joe and his family had the good fortune to later establish dual residencies in New Jersey and Palm Beach County, Florida where they enjoyed 27 years of new and old friendships.
He was a lifetime member of Police Benevolent Association
Also was previously employed as a longshoreman in port Newark, NJ and a lifetime member of the International Longshoreman’s Union.
Joe was a devout roman catholic who faithfully attended mass at Our Lady of the Lake R.C. Church in Verona, NJ. Joe was also known for his kindness and generosity to everyone and frequently gave unsolicited charity to his parish, his family, friends, and to any person who needed help.
Joe was predeceased by his mother, Violet McDonough, and father, Richard W. McDonough and his brother Richard McDonough.
Joe is survived by his wife of 58 years, Angelina McDonough (née DeBartolo); and daughter, Andrea McDonough of West Orange, NJ; sister, Patricia Yuhas of Orlando, FL; Yuhas nephews, Shawn and Margaret, Kathleen, Robert, Gregg, Brian and Melissa, Brendan and Kristan and Timothy; Yuhas grand nieces, Brianna, Kira, John, Jennifer, Addison, Lauren and Ty; close family members; sister in law, Concetta Uzzolino; cousins Robert, Roseann and Kimberly Carroll, of Roseland, Peter and Ann Marie and Tony Uzzolino of Sea Girt, NJ, Peter and Mary Uzzolino and children, Noah and Alexa.
Joe is also survived by many NJ and FL friends: Jean Holm, Sheila Zukerman, Florence “GiGi” DeMari, Eileen Palazzone, Elsa and David Largen and Alma Dolan. Joe also had others who were like daughters and sons to him, Jane and Thomas Young, Rachel and Scot Bigg, Vivian Mazzella, Beverly Ceaser, and his “Waldo”, Brenda Levron.
