Loving Father & Grandfather
Joseph John Theobald, of Caldwell, NJ, peacefully passed away on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at home. He was 88 years old.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family at the Codey & Jones Funeral Home, 54 Roseland Avenue, Caldwell on Tuesday, September 4th from 4-8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Aloysius R.C. Church, 219 Bloomfield Avenue, Caldwell on Wednesday, September 5th at 10:00 am. Joe was born and raised in Scranton, PA before moving to East Orange, NJ. He was the son Joseph and Frances Theobald (Mackin). A graduate of Our Lady of the Valley High School, he was a Korean War veteran before earning a bachelor's degree from Seton Hall University. He settled in West Caldwell, NJ with his beloved wife, the late Bernadette (Boutillier), and together they raised their family of six children.
Mr. Theobald was a professional in the heavy-construction industry, building roads, bridges and tunnels. He was a superintendent with Schiavone Construction Co. in Secaucus, NJ for many years before his retirement.
He was predeceased by his beloved younger brothers Robert, Eugene and Donald.
Surviving are his devoted children; Joseph and his partner Debra and daughter-in-law Carol (Cousins); Charles and his wife, Inja; Bernadette Gillick, and her husband Steve; Michael and his wife, Joann; Mary Moreno and her husband, Mark; John and his partner Paul and daughter-in-law Sharon (Martin); dear brother, Rev. Charles F. Theobald; also 12 loving grandchildren: Kimberly, Alyson, Diana, Joseph, Veronica, Brianna, Michael, Camille, Evan, Austin, Eileen, Kevin and 7 adored great grandchildren: Keira, Caroline, Kevin, Courtney, Brooklyn, Roman, Skye; special friend & caregiver, Andrea Reid; and many loved nieces and nephews too numerous to name.
Joe was a daily communicant at St. Al's, so if so desired, donations in Joe's memory to the St. Aloysius Food Bank would be deeply appreciated.
