Obituary of Jean Louise Lancaster

Jean Louise Millar Lancaster, 89, of Marlboro, formerly of West Orange, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2019. She is survived by two daughters, Anne Clark, of Edison, NJ , and Barbara Gebelein (Richard), of Sellersville, PA, 4 grandchildren, Sarah Ngungu (Moses), Richard Gebelein (Rebecca), Sarah Clark, and Tori Clark, and 7 great grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She is also survived by a brother, Edwin Millar (Marilyn), and a nephew, and niece, and 5 great nephews and great nieces. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Rev. W. Elmer Lancaster.

Born April 5, 1930, Jean was the daughter of William and Janet Louisa Millar, of Scotland, and lived in North Arlington,NJ . Jean graduated from Montclair State Teachers college and taught in the West Orange Public Schools for more than 25 years at Fairmount Elementary and Hazel Avenue Schools. She was involved in leading Girl Scouts while teaching. When she retired, she continued to tutor at Hazel Avenue School.

Jean was involved in the American Red Cross Braille Division, tutoring programs and so many choirs and committees at her church with her family. She was very involved with the Interfaith Hospitality Network Program. She loved knitting and making smocked dresses for friends and children.

A memorial service will be held at the Sunrise Assisted Living , 3A North Main St., Marlboro, NJ 07746 on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at 11:00 a.m.

Burial will be private.

To continue her legacy of giving, and her love of children, donations of school supplies or monetary donations for school supplies in her memory would be greatly appreciated for Interfaith Hospitality Network. (46 Park St., Montclair, NJ, 07042)
