Matt and Star, Sorry to hear about the loss of your father and grandfather. I was Sam's neighbor on Oakland Avenue for many years. Sam provided me with a great deal of entertainment during that time. I will always remember Sam and his obsession with the fall leaves. There he would be out on the front yard with his leaf blower, sometimes blowing as few as a dozen or so leaves. I often thought I could pick up the few leaves quicker by hand. He loved his leaf blower. My favorite Sam leaf story was watching him blow leaves off his front property and across the street to Joe Redner's property. West Caldwell required us to bag our leaves and Sam knew Joe had a landscaper take her leaves. Sam's thinking was there was no reason for him to bag his leaves when Joe's landscaper could pick them up for him. In addition to leaves, Sam was fond of knowing everyone's business and always a good source of Oakland Avenue gossip. Sam was also good at getting people to bend to his wishes. From getting the post office to switch our mail back to morning delivery or getting the town to remove a deer that decided to die in his shrubs. If there was a way to save a buck, Sam would certainly do so. Anyway, Sam always gave me a chuckle and a host of "neighbor" stories. RIP Sam.

I read about Samuel's death in the Star Ledger. I am so sorry for your loss. Death of a loved one can be very distressing even if the person is elderly or sick. I would like to share the Bible's hope for those who have died and an encouragement for those who have lost a loved one. The Bible teaches us that death was not part of God's original plan. He wanted man to live forever on a paradise earth. Man disobeyed God and brought about sin and death to the human race. God's plan will still be realized. Isaiah 55:11 states, "So my word that goes out of my mouth will be. It will not return to me without results, but it will certainly accomplish whatever is my delight. It will have sure success in what I send it to do." The Bible talks about a resurrection of those who have died. (Acts 24:15, John 5:28, 29) The word resurrection in the Bible literally means "a standing up again" and "revival of the dead". The provision for resurrection of the dead is a magnificent expression of God's undeserved kindness and love. It displays his wisdom and power and is a means by which his original purpose regarding the earth and mankind will be carried out. If you would like to learn more about what the Bible teaches, please go to JW.org. Sincerely, Paula
