Obituary of Lona M. Wiggins-Nixon
Lona M. Wiggins-Nixon, 87 of Roselle passed away on April 27, 2020 at Alaris Healthcare in West Orange.
Born on April 18,1933 in Cairo, GA to the late Eugene Bentley and Eleane Chester. Lona went through the Cairo, GA school system and later moved to Florida before finally settling in New Jersey.
Lona resided in Orange, NJ for many years where she was a community leader and advocate. Lona was always working to improve the community and keep it and everyone in it safe. Lona later moved to Roselle, NJ where her community work continued; Lona was always helping people.
Lona loved catering and sewing, and was always dressed to impress. Lona was a faithful member of Bethel A.M.E. Church in Vauxhall, NJ, and as a very active member served in various organizations. Throughout the years Lona has received numerous awards and acknowledgements for her hard work and dedication.
Lona is survived by her loving husband Goven Nixon; her children Hershel Norwood, Ronald Abdul Norwood, Riva I. Wiggins and her loving special granddaughter Sacoya Holmes, who she raised and loved dearly. Lona has 8 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and Godchildren who all love her so much. She was predeceased by her mother and father, and by her sons Anthony and Kenneth Norwood.
A private homegoing service will be held on May 5, 2020, in the care of the Codey & Jones Funeral Home.
