Bob and Nan were great friends to my mom, Marge Gibson, regularly driving her to Sunday services at St. Peter's in her later years. They were among the cherished guests at my mom's 90th birthday tea luncheon some eight years ago, and I will never forget what a lovely time she, and all of us, had at that memorable gathering four years before she passed.
So I was deeply saddened when Bob's name jumped out of the paper at me earlier this week. I had just sent him a silent greeting when I walked my dogs passed his home a few days earlier. (He always had a biscuit ready for all of our pups over the years - probably one for every dog he encountered! - although with their beloved Ivan, they were clearly "cat people"!)
Bob and Nan were such a fun, kind, caring and delightful couple, and good family friends. It is very hard to say goodbye to Bob now, but it is comforting to know he and Nan are reunited. And I will remember both of them with great fondness and smiles. My deepest condolences to the family.

When we moved in next to Bob and Nan, now so many years ago, we were so grateful to discover that next door lived the nicest neighbors that a couple could hope for. We still remember being in our new home for our first winter and watching through our windows as the snow accumulated, dreading the task of shoveling our new, very long driveway. Suddenly Bob appeared with his snow blower and without a word, he cleared the driveway. He and Nan were those kind of neighbors. Very giving and thoughtful. We greatly miss them both.

My condolences to Bob's family. He was a strong and charismatic. I lost a good friend with his passing. Growing up next door, 'Uncle' Bob gave me many memories and I am most grateful for all of our happy hours on the front porch. Our conversations would span the news, world travel, his life, and would always include how to correctly measure the pour of a scotch. Strong willed as ever and full of gratitude, his favorite line was “You’re a good person....don’t let it go to your head”. He was always invested in my well being, celebrating my successes and keeping me grounded. He will be deeply missed. I take solace believing that he is in a happier place, reunited with 'Aunt' Nan on her birthday for a scotch and shortbread
