Obituary of Michael E. Dixon
Michael E. Dixon
Loving Husband, Father & Grandfather
Dedicated Kiwanian
Michael Eugene Dixon, peacefully passed away in his sleep at home on Friday, March 5, 2021. He lived a good life of 80 years.
He was born in East Orange to Eugene and Ruth (Melvin) Dixon and was raised with his brother, Gerald, in Cedar Grove.
Michael graduated from Rider College with a B.S. in Finance. Soon after he met and married the love of his life, JoAnn Conte, and together they raised their two sons in Verona, Glen Ridge and West Caldwell.
Mr. Dixon enlisted in the US Army Reserve and was honorably discharged in 1969.
Before his retirement, Mike worked as a Financial Planner with PSE&G in Newark.
Perhaps he will be remembered by most of us as a truly dedicated Kiwanis Member who began with the Glen Ridge Club before joining the Caldwell/West Essex Club where he served Kiwanis in a very active 22 years in almost every capacity during his life. He served as President from 2009 – 2010 and Lieutenant Governor of our Division shortly thereafter. Currently, Michael was chair of our Communications Committee, faithfully updating the website and assisting with pretty much any task asked by anyone.
Kiwanis members remember Michael for his amazing Excel spreadsheets and keeping us organized for the Street Fair and the Christmas Walk and having a wonderful dry sense of humor. One member wrote, "He left this world a better place in our community and for children around the world."
He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, JoAnn; devoted sons and their wives, Christopher and Samantha, Peter and Susan; cherished grandchildren, Allison and Evan; dear brother, Gerald Dixon and his wife, Betty and their children, Ruthann and Kathy; also his Kiwanis family and many friends in the community.
Join the family as they celebrate Michael's life with a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, April 9th at 10:00 am in Notre Dame Church, 359 Central Ave., North Caldwell, NJ. Arrangements in care of Codey & Jones Funeral Home of Caldwell.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Michael's memory to the Dystonia Foundation, 1 East Wacker Drive, Suite 1730, Chicago, IL 60601 by mail, or online at https://dystonia-foundation.org/ .
