Obituary of Cosimo Gustave Promollo
Cosimo Gustave Promollo of Ledgewood, formerly of Orange, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, February 17, 2022, at St. Clare’s Hospital in Dover, NJ. He was 95 years old.
Cosimo was born in Orange, NJ to Joseph and Lucille (neé Corvelli) Promollo in 1926 and graduated from Orange High School. He went on to Columbia University where he earned his master’s degree in Music and then attended Julliard as he worked toward his doctorate.
Cosimo joined the United States Marine Corps in 1944 and was honorably discharged at the end of 1945.
Cosimo was very talented musically and played the alto, baritone and soprano saxophones like a dream. He played with his jazz band Jerry Mitchell and the New Yorkers for many years. Cosimo was lucky in that he had a career in a field that he loved. He taught countless students in his lifetime to learn and love music as much as he did. Cosimo was still giving music lessons until the pandemic started.
Cosimo is survived by his beloved wife, Joan (neé McGoldrick); his cherished sons, Gustave (Donna) and John, his adored daughter, Valerie Swan (Michael); his loving grandson, Joseph Korczukowki; his loving granddaughter, Ashley Korczukowski; his dear sister, Lucille (neé Promollo) Ciullo; and other family members and friends.
A private funeral has been arranged. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Cosimo’s memory may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project.
In Loving Memory
