Obituary of Douglas J. Hartwyk
Douglas J. Hartwyk, 74, of Ridgefield, died suddenly on January 22, 2024.
Doug spent most of his life in New Jersey, but traveled throughout the United States and the world, bravely serving as an infantryman in Vietnam. Doug was born in January 1950 in Orange, NJ to James, Sr. and Bernice Hartwyk.
He was predeceased by his wife of 28 years, Catherine (Cathy) in 2008, with whom he raised a family in Point Pleasant, NJ. He is survived by his three children and their spouses, Kate Hartwyk and Doug Pepe of Verona, NJ; Sarah and Adam Schlenoff of Timonium-Luterville, MD; and Brian and Caitlin Hartwyk of Parkville, MD; and his six grandchildren, Charlie, Henry, Teddy, Brady, Camden, and Emily. He is also survived by his five brothers and their spouses, James, Jr. & Kathleen; Jeffrey, Sr. & Lenora; Mark & Joanne; Philip & Eleanor; and Christopher; and many nieces and nephews.
Doug was a jack of many trades, including commercial fishing and running an Ice Cream Truck at the Jersey Shore. Most recently he worked as a member of the Screen Actors Guild. Doug was warm and welcoming, quick with a big smile or a great story, and loved spending time with his family. He was particularly proud of his grandchildren and their accomplishments, and will be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation with the family will be Saturday, January 27 from 1pm to 3pm at Codey Funeral Home, 54 Roseland Avenue, Caldwell. To share a condolence, please visit CodeyFuneralHome.com.
